Families in Sunderland will once again benefit from an extra special gift this Easter weekend, thanks to the generosity of local businesses and their employees.
This year’s donations will see the Group and our contractors donate our 5000th gift to those in need at Easter.
Our annual campaign, which usually sees Easter Eggs given to families who are struggling, was refreshed in 2021. With food and fuel prices continuing to soar, we knew we needed to do more than provide chocolate eggs again this year.
The appeal is a collective effort by the Group and donations from our contractors Bell Group, Equans, Esh Construction and Re:Gen.
Together, we have collected thousands of food items to create another 70 Easter hampers. The hampers are filled with cupboard essentials including cereal, pasta and toiletries as well as some Easter treats. They will be distributed by our employees ahead of the Easter Bank Holiday to those who are struggling across the city.
Gentoo also offer a number of support services to tenants who are in financial difficulty or need advice. Last year, our Money Matters Team supported more than 800 tenants to make financial gains resulting in more than £1,000,000 worth of additional income for tenants.
Catherine Loftus, Associate Director of Housing at Gentoo, said: “Each year, the generosity of our contractors and employees gets greater. I’d like to thank everyone who has made this year’s campaign possible. This year alone, hampers will help more than 70 families and individuals across the city.
The cost of living crisis continues to put a huge amount of pressure on residents. I hope the gift of an Easter hamper will raise spirits during the holidays and provide a helping hand.”
