Sunderland Foodbank and Gentoo work together to supply and deliver vital food parcels to local residents

We're proud to be supporting Sunderland Foodbank during the Covid-19 pandemic, with our colleagues volunteering daily to help keep the vital service running for tenants and residents most in need across the city.

As part of our commitment to ensuring the Sunderland community remains resilient throughout the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, employees are helping out at Sunderland Foodbank to prepare essential food parcels and deliver them to those in need of food and supplies.

Teams of our employees have been working over the last week to ensure the foodbank can remain open and is able to continue delivering the service over the weeks ahead, using our fleet to deliver vital food parcels to local communities.

Gentoo’s Chief Executive Officer, Nigel Wilson, visited the foodbank and joined colleagues in their efforts. Nigel said:

“We’re committed to supporting tenants and residents across Sunderland and ensuring our communities stay resilient during these challenging times. The spirit and togetherness of people across the city is unquestionable and it’s fantastic to see everyone working together where possible to help those most in need. We’ll continue to support the Foodbank and Sunderland City Council to ensure these residents get the food and supplies they need over coming days and weeks.”

Sunderland Foodbank Coordinator, Jo Gordon, said:

“The support we’ve had from Gentoo has been fantastic and it’s great to have their teams of volunteers helping us on a daily basis. With their support we have been able to make sure that everything still functions at our foodstore and eight distribution points across the city”.

Our employees have also fundraised so that a £283 donation could be made to the foodbank to help buy essential supplies, as well as contributing bags full of food that was collected across its offices and depots.
