The People Director will be responsible for leading a highly experienced team including HR, Learning, Organisational Development, Communications and Brand. Working closely with the Executive Director for Corporate Services, the People Director will be responsible for the People Strategy and will be a trusted advisor of the Executive team.

The role will include:
• Providing a first class service delivery of HR, Payroll, Learning and Development and Communications and Marketing whilst ensuring quality, compliance and value for money
• Driving the organisational culture based on Gentoo’s values, ensuring the People Strategy and all initiatives are aligned
• Leading and developing a successful team, operating at Board level as a passionate and focused leader
• Accountability for all people practices, policies and processes and their adherence to Regulatory, Legislative, Statutory and Internal Audit & Governance Requirements - ensuring a compliance mindset and culture within the People Team
• Being a trusted advisor to the Executive Team ; building relationships and providing pragmatic business focused advice and coaching
• Responsibility and oversight of Gentoo’s end to end annual cyclical process including workforce planning, talent management and annual appraisal process
• Ownership and accountability for the delivery of the People Team’s KPIs, utilising data and insights to drive future initiatives
• Responsibility of the HR Operating Model ensuring a business partnering approach and increased line manager capability
• Accountability for the L&D Strategy and the development of all employees and Line Managers as needed, ensuring value for money and return on investment
• Accountable for Gentoo’s compensation philosophy and strategy, ensuring it is aligned to our core values and behaviours as well as providing value for money and a competitive position in the market place
• Ensuring the ongoing effective partnerships with employees and Trades Unions
• Ownership and accountability for the Group’s employee engagement strategy and delivery through the People Team resources
• Ensuring Gentoo’s Change Management philosophy is integral to the delivery of the Gentoo’s People Strategy where change is managed positively across the organisation
• Making certain that people policies and processes are lean, easily understood and accessible to our Line Managers and employees
• Driving a culture of continuous improvement and efficiency within the People Team to generate new ideas and innovations
• Partnering with external organisations such as local schools and colleges to promote Gentoo’s core values and behaviours and provide support where appropriate
Skills and experience:
Essential experience and attributes
• Passionate HR expert with a proven track record at a similar level
• Commercial and operational mindset, understands business and is financially aware
• Drives a culture of performance, utilising KPI’s and insights, holding people accountable
• Strong focus on customer service and delivering results, driving high standards and challenging those who don’t meet them
• Able to prioritise, has a sense of urgency together with excellent organisational skills
• Strong change management experience and the ability to lead effectively through change and innovation
• Has ability to drive and transform the HR offering
• Confident to operate at Board level
• Builds relationships with ease, has impact and influence
• Decisive and able to challenge the status quo
• Excellent communicator
• Technologically savvy
• Able to demonstrate a lean, compliance and value for money mindset
• Appreciates the social housing sector and understands Gentoo’s social purpose
Qualifications and Training
• Chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel (MCIPD)
• Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
