More than 300 new homes given go-ahead for Sunderland

We're delighted to announce we've been given the go-ahead to build 312 new homes in Sunderland.

Sunderland City Council’s Planning Committee has granted planning permission for the homes, which span across three developments, allowing us to start work on sites in High Usworth in Washington, Coaley Lane in Houghton-le-Spring and Broomhill in Hetton-le-Hole.

At the new development off Wellbank Road in High Usworth, previously home to High Usworth Junior School and Donwell Primary School, we will be building 56 new homes for sale, with a combination of semi-detached and detached three and four bedroomed homes.

At our Coaley Lane development, we will be extending our popular Meadow View scheme with 128 new homes being built in addition to the 136 already under construction.

At our new Broomhill site off Houghton Road in Hetton, we will be building 128 new homes consisting of two, three and four-bedroomed homes, with a combination of homes for sale and for rent.

Commenting on planning permission being granted, Gentoo Group Chair, Ian Self, said: “We are delighted to have been given the go-ahead to build 312 new homes across Sunderland. On top of our significant existing development programme in the city, this shows that we are committed to delivering high quality new homes, in sought after locations, across a variety of tenures, for the people of Sunderland.”

This great news comes at the same time Gentoo Homes has reported another successful year of sales, delivering 233 homes across ten sites in the North East. The Group's development business sold 164 properties and generated a profit of £3 million, which, as we're a profit for purpose organisation, will be reinvested into the Group's affordable housing programme.

We have delivered more than 1900 new homes for Sunderland since we were founded in 2001 and are currently building 570 new homes across five live sites, with our existing investment exceeding £80m.

These developments include:

Our mixed-tenure Castle Rise development in Downhill, Sunderland, is now sold out, becoming one of our fastest selling housing developments.

We will be adding information on our forthcoming developments to the Gentoo Homes website as and when we announce them.
