LGBT History Month 2016

This month is been Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month and at Gentoo we celebrate the event every year.

This year’s theme is Religion, Belief and Philosophy.

At Gentoo we’ve been reminding ourselves that, contrary to the impression you might get from some parts of the media, religion, belief and sexual orientation are not mutually exclusive.

We love these posters from Stonewall which celebrate diversity in relation to belief and sexual orientation. We’ve been remembering that there are many strands to everyone’s identity. Age, disability, gender identity, race, religion or belief and sexual orientation are just a few of them.

It’s important that we don’t label people and think of them only in relation to one strand, otherwise we will miss so much about each other. Think of it like a rope, each individual strand is interwoven with the others and interacts in complex ways. Some strands are visible and some are hidden. But each strand contributes to the whole person and makes each one of us absolutely unique.

Let’s celebrate our diversity.
