Gentoo staff are trained to help you save money on your energy bill and can provide advice on how best use a smart meter.

Gentoo is working with National Energy Action on a European Union-funded research project which aims to help social housing customers get the most out of in-home smart meters.

What is a smart meter?

A smart meter is a new kind of gas and electricity meter that can digitally send meter readings to your energy supplier. This can ensure more accurate energy bills and in-home monitors help you monitor your energy usage. Every home in the UK will have a smart meter installed by 2020.

What are the benefits of having a smart meter?

  • More accurate energy bills
  • Meter readings are sent to your energy supplier automatically
  • They allow for better oversight and management of your energy usage

I don’t have a smart meter, how can I get one?

Your energy supplier will install your smart meter for free under the national upgrade programme which began in 2015. You should contact your energy supplier if you would like to have one fitted.
