Our allocations service is resuming - with strict new measures and procedures

As part of the Government’s plans to restart the housing market and services following the introduction of COVID-19 restrictions, we will be resuming our allocations service with a number of new procedures and safety measures, which includes strict social distancing rules.

The re-opening of our allocations service will take place in phases, as follows:

  • We will complete tenancy sign ups and property moves that were due to take place immediately prior to COVID-19 restrictions being introduced in March 2020.
  • We will re-open the bidding window for available properties via Home Hunt, initially on a two weekly cycle, starting at 2pm on Wednesday 20 May 2020.
  • The bidding window cycle will then revert back to its normal weekly occurrence from Wednesday 3 June 2020.
  • Re-starting property viewings where possible, including, specific timeslots and restrictions on the number of people attending a viewing.
  • We will also be exploring new ways to promote our homes, including using video footage and additional photography.

In line with guidance from the Government and Public Health England, we have implemented a number of measures and procedures that are aimed at protecting everyone involved. Social distancing must be adhered to at all times.

Bidding on properties

  • Users registered with Home Hunt will be able to bid on available Gentoo properties from 2pm on Wednesday 20 May 2020.
  • The first bidding window will run on a two week cycle closing on Wednesday 3 June 2020 at 12pm.
  • If you are looking for a new home, please only bid on a property if you have a serious interest in securing it. You will receive a phone call prior to the viewing to ensure you are likely to accept the property should you be offered it.

Attending a property viewing

  • Social distancing must be strictly adhered to at all times. Please stay 2 metres apart from our staff.
  • If you are invited to attend a property viewing, you will have your own viewing slot and will be provided with a specific time for your appointment. You will be allocated a ten minute viewing slot and you will not view the property at the same time as anyone else.
  • It is essential you are on time for your appointment. Anyone arriving early or late will be asked to wait outside of the boundary of the property until the viewing can safely take place, or, alternatively you will be asked to schedule another appointment.
  • If you are applying as a single person (sole tenant), it is essential you attend the property viewing alone.
  • If you are applying for a joint tenancy, it is essential that only you and the person who you intend to live with attend the property viewing (maximum of two people per viewing and children should not attend with you).
  • All properties will have their surfaces and door handles wiped down with anti-bacterial spray in advance of a viewing day.
  • Doors will be propped open to prevent the need to touch door handles and you are advised not to touch any other surfaces where at all possible.
  • If you are invited to attend a property viewing and require assistance or support, you must let us know in advance of your scheduled appointment.

Signing up to a tenancy

  • Social distancing must be strictly adhered to at all times. Please stay 2 metres apart from our staff.
  • If you are successful in your application for a property, you will be invited to attend a sign up appointment where you will sign a tenancy agreement.
  • If you are applying as a single person (sole tenant), it is important only you attend the appointment.
  • If you are applying for a joint tenancy, it is essential that both the people named on the tenancy agreement attend the sign up appointment.
  • Please bring your own pen to the appointment.
  • Please also prepare for your ID to be photographed as part of the sign up process.
  • If you require assistance or support, you must let us know in advance of your scheduled appointment.

We appreciate the frustrations many people may have as a result of the difficult and challenging situation we find ourselves in through COVID-19. However, the situation continues to change extremely quickly and we would ask that you please have patience as we resume the service under strict new guidelines to protect everyone concerned.

Please be aware that for obvious reasons the service will take longer to be delivered than usual. Your patience and understanding is appreciated as we resume our services.
