Gentoo wins social housing development of the year award

One of Sunderland’s newest developments has won Social Housing Development of the Year at The Bricks LABC Warranty Awards.

Hillcrag by Gentoo Homes won the award for the £14.3m new affordable housing development on the former High Ford estate.

Celebrating the best in the house building industry, The Bricks recognise companies who stand out from the rest and go the extra mile, regardless of size, to deliver quality in construction and design.

Ian Self, Chair of Gentoo Group said: “Building affordable new homes in Sunderland and the surrounding area is a main priority as a housing association and developer.

“With over 3,000 eligible developments, it is a great achievement for Gentoo Homes to have won the prestigious award.”

Working with some of the biggest house builders in the country, small to medium sized developers as well as thousands of self-builders looking to build their dream home, LABC Warranty’s unique partnership with LABC provides a streamlined service to ensure the highest quality of build.

Mike Swatton, LABC Warranty Business Development Director and Head Judge commented: “We have seen a good, consistent level of build standards across the board with some exceptional workmanship and quality in construction.”

Hillcrag is one of four Gentoo developments currently underway in the city. Others are at Thurcroft, Doxford Park, Castle Rise, Downhill and Meadow View, Houghton-le-Spring.
