Gentoo Trades Academy

We are incredibly proud of the Gentoo Trades Academy, which provides young people with an outstanding and practical pathway into a rewarding career in construction and housing maintenance. Our participants benefit from two days a week at college, including invaluable time at Sunderland College’s state-of-the-art HICSA centre, where they gain both a solid foundation in construction theory and hands-on experience in essential skills such as bricklaying, plastering, and joinery. Over the course of this two-year programme, our students work towards two highly respected qualifications, each equivalent to a GCSE: the BTEC Level 2 in Construction and the Built Environment, and the City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Award in Construction and Maintaining the Built Environment.

Gentoo is committed to supporting students throughout the programme. We provide a full branded uniform and safety equipment, cover the cost of lunches while at college, and offer practical work experience placements and site visits. On successful completion of the programme, students are guaranteed an assessment place for a Gentoo apprenticeship, opening the door to a bright future in the industry.
