Taking action on anti-social behaviour in Washington

We know anti-social behaviour can have a serious impact on people’s lives. It can affect how safe customers feel in their homes and have a wider impact on the community. Everyone deserves to feel safe where they live.

We are committed to listening and acting on the concerns raised by our customers.

Working in partnership with Northumbria Police and Sunderland City Council through the Safer Concord and Sulgrave Community Safety Hub, we have taken action in the Washington community. Recently, a judge granted possession orders for three homes. This means three customers can no longer live in their homes due to the impact of their behaviour on their neighbours and the wider community.

This kind of action is always a last resort for us. It only follows careful consideration, evidence gathering and significant work to try to resolve concerns. It also reflects the ongoing and often complex work carried out by our teams and partners over time to address anti-social behaviour, support those affected and help keep neighbourhoods safe.

The action taken demonstrates how partnership working, alongside information shared by customers, can lead to meaningful change.

Next week is ASB Awareness Week, and we are encouraging anyone experiencing or concerned about ASB to come forward and report it. Reporting helps us understand what is happening and take the right action.

Customers can report anti-social behaviour by:
• Contacting Northumbria Police on 101, or 999 in an emergency
• Using Sunderland City Council’s report an issue page
• Reporting directly to us or by call 0191 525 5000 and select option 3

We will continue to work with partners and our communities to tackle anti-social behaviour and make our neighbourhoods great places to live.
