We have completed the first phase of a major £6.7 million roofing and externals replacement programme in Redhouse, helping to improve the safety, comfort and appearance of more than 250 homes.
Delivered by RE:GEN North East, the investment has seen new roofs installed across the area, alongside new fascia, soffits and rainwater goods, as well as the relining of Finlock guttering.
As part of the programme, a range of external improvements were also carried out, including rendering, wall tie replacements, repointing to property elevations, new door canopies and any necessary structural works to maintain the long term integrity of the homes.
Boundary enhancements were completed alongside the roofing works, with remedial repairs to existing brick boundary walls and the installation of new garden and driveway gates. These improvements further enhance the safety, security and overall appearance of the properties.
The programme forms part of Gentoo’s wider £44 million investment programme for 2025/26, which will see more than 4,000 homes benefit from improvement works across the city.
One customer, who has lived on the Redhouse estate for more than 70 years, said they were delighted with the results and how much of a positive difference the work has made to their home.
David Summers, Assistant Director – Planned Investment and Commercial at Gentoo said: "We’re delighted to have completed the first of three phases of the roofing programme.
“This investment demonstrates our commitment to improving homes and neighbourhoods. By carrying out essential property upgrades, we’re helping to ensure our customers have warm, safe and decent homes they can be proud of.”
Jonathan Horner, Managing Director at RE:GEN North East said: “This programme is a great example of how targeted investment can enhance lives and leave a lasting impact on communities. As a Sunderland based business, it means a great deal to us to help strengthen the neighbourhoods on our doorstep.
“We’re proud to be working in partnership with Gentoo to deliver these essential improvements and look forward to continuing our role in creating homes and communities that are truly built to last.”
