We've opened two new area depots in Sunderland as part of property services growth and investment

We have opened two new operational depots in the Hetton and Washington area of Sunderland. The depots, situated in Glover Industrial Estate and Hetton Lyons Industrial Estate, will be home to our property maintenance colleagues and will improve operational efficiencies and our service to customers.

We have worked in partnership with Building Design Northern (BDN), Hall and Partners and MGM Construction to design and deliver the depot facilities. The new and improved depots will enable us to improve our maintenance operations including estate services. Features include improved welfare facilities for colleagues and large storage spaces for machinery and materials.

The depot at Glover Industrial Estate will primarily support Gentoo’s estate services colleagues, enhancing services with the Washington area being one of Gentoo’s largest grass-cutting areas.

Both depots will provide colleagues with a base to work more efficiently to ensure customers receive the best possible service.

Marc Edwards, Executive Director of Property at Gentoo said: “I am delighted to announce the opening of the new area depots in Hetton and Washington as part of our continued investment and expansion of our property services. The new and improved depots reflect Gentoo’s dedication to our colleagues and customers and will enhance our position in Sunderland to deliver high quality, efficient maintenance services for our customers.”

Stephen Ashworth, Estate Operative at Gentoo said: “We’re really pleased with the new depots. It will make such an improvement to our working lives. We have a new, heated space with a dry room, kitchen and everything in one place.”

Ian Avis, Operations Director at MGM Construction said: “It has been a pleasure to work alongside Gentoo to deliver two new area depot projects. We are delighted to further provide two new TV screens for the depots as part of our social value work in Sunderland to benefit Gentoo customers and colleagues.”
