We're delighted construction work has begun to build our brand-new depot and office at Eastgate Point in Hendon.
The depot forms part of a wider development led by Promenade Properties, with construction managed by Hewitson Group and architectural design by Building Design Northern (BDN). Located at Eastgate Point, the 120,000 square foot complex will feature multiple trade units, an electric vehicle charging station, and a drive-through coffee shop. Sustainability is a key focus of the development, with low-carbon initiatives such as EV charging points and solar PV helping to significantly reduce energy consumption.
When building work is complete in Summer 2026, the new facility will become home to Gentoo’s Property Services teams alongside our materials supplier, Jewson Partnership Solutions. Sharing the site will enhance our service by enabling a closer working relationship on the same site.
The announcement of the new depot follows a review of our offices to create a better service for customers and better working spaces for our colleagues. Gentoo was awarded Great Place to Work certification last year and we continue to invest in our people and customers. Colleague feedback will be influential in shaping the design of the new depot, with dedicated feedback forums ensuring the space supports the comfort, productivity, and wellbeing of colleagues.
Marc Edwards, Executive Director of Property at Gentoo said: “It’s great to see construction work has now begun on site for our new depot, marking the beginning of a journey to bring our property operations closer together. Having Jewson alongside us at the new depot will improve efficiencies and reduce wait times for our customers’ repairs. I’m looking forward to seeing the development progress and proud that we are investing in a in a space in Sunderland that keeps our colleagues close to the customers and communities we serve.”

As architects, we have worked closely with Gentoo to create bespoke industrial facilities that support their ambitions, and with construction now started, we look forward to seeing their new depot taking shape.”
