Shared Ownership eligibility

We will check you are eligible for the Shared Ownership home you are interested in. Our checks are to make sure you meet the criteria and can afford your home now and in the future.


You must be at least 18 years old.

Income and finances

You must have a total household income of £80,000 a year or less.

Your income must be enough so you can pay your:

  • mortgage
  • rent
  • service charge

When you are buying your share, you must have enough money to pay:

  • reservation fee
  • deposit
  • legal and other fees, like getting the property valued

Home ownership status

You must be a first-time buyer or unable to buy a suitable property on the open market and not already own a property.

If you own a home, you must sell it before you buy a home through Shared Ownership.
