Water
We can apply to Northumbrian Water for a Water Rate Reduction if you’re on a low income, receive welfare benefits or are leaving care. Speak to your Neighbourhood Coordinator to apply.
Council Tax
Council Tax Reduction (also called Council Tax Support) can help if you’re on a low income or getting certain benefits. It reduces the amount of Council Tax you need to pay.
You can apply whether you rent or own your home, and it doesn’t matter if you’re working or not.
The help you receive depends on your personal circumstances and where you live, as each council runs its own scheme.
Your council will look at things like:
- your age
- your income and any benefits you receive
- your savings
- who lives with you
- how much Council Tax you pay
You may get extra support if you receive a disability benefit or a carer’s benefit.
