The local women’s charity was awarded more than £450 towards cooking classes they host in the local community.
We recently supported Women’s Community Boutique through our Community Grant programme.. The local women’s charity was awarded more than £450 towards cooking classes they host in the local community.
Women’s Community Boutique support women of all cultures in Sunderland through their sustainable clothing boutique. Women who are part of the community also host a range of community events for the group, including regular free cooking sessions to share food, culture and learn new cooking skills together.
The charity recently used their Aspire Grant funding to host an Indian cooking class at Donnison School Heritage and Education Centre in Hendon.
Gaganpreet, who comes from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan in India, hosted a class cooking a vegetarian spread of Indian dishes, Chana Masala, Poori, and Sooji Halwa.

The charity kindly invited us along to their cooking class to get involved and see the community impact of our funding.

John Dannell, Gentoo Customer Committee member said: “It’s been brilliant to see our funds at Gentoo be put to good use at a brilliant community facility. Its been a great atmosphere and seeing the community come together has been amazing. We’re really pleased our funds have made community events like this happen.”
Poppy Choudhury-Green, Managing Director at Women’s Community Boutique said: “It’s been great to welcome Lewis and John from Gentoo to our cooking class. Thanks to their funding, we’re able to host these sessions which really bring the community together. We’re looking forward to hosting more sessions!”
