Going the egg‑stra mile to support customers with everyday essentials

We are once again supporting customers across Sunderland this Easter with essential food parcels, toiletries and Easter eggs, thanks to the generosity of our contractors and partners.

The annual Easter campaign recognises that while an Easter egg is a welcome treat, many customers need support that goes far beyond chocolate. This year’s parcels include essential food items and toiletries, as well as feminine hygiene products, baby items, and cat and dog food helping to meet the real, everyday needs of households.

The campaign is delivered every year as part of our ongoing commitment to support customers who may be facing financial pressures, particularly during school holidays and seasonal periods that can place extra strain on household budgets.

Earlier this year, we asked customers how they were feeling, and 62% of respondents said they had skipped meals or gone a day without eating in the past 12 months highlighting just how vital practical support like this can be.

Chris Roberts, Director of Customer, said: “An Easter egg is a lovely gesture, but we know that for many of our customers, support needs to go much further than that.

“Every year, we run this campaign because we understand that some customers can face financial difficulties through no fault of their own, leaving people struggling to afford food and everyday essentials.

“These parcels are about offering practical help, dignity and reassurance at a time when it’s needed most. I’m incredibly grateful to our colleagues and contractors for their generosity and continued commitment to supporting our customers and communities.”

The Easter parcels have been made possible through the continued generosity of our contractors and supply chain partners, who have once again come together to support customers and communities across the city, including:

Baxi, Bell Group, Blake Hopkinson, Group Tegula, Hall and Partners, ISOLER, JTC Furniture Group, Lumsden Wood, Meter Manager, MGM Construction, Muckle LLP, Northern Electrical Fire Security, Pegasus, PHS Solutions, RE:GEN North East, Resideo, Resource, T Manners, Together North East.

We are continuing to support customers over the Easter half term by welcoming 2,000 customers to another Easter fun day at the Beacon of Light on Friday 10 April.
