A passionate gardening duo from Sunderland are celebrating after being crowned winners of Gentoo’s 2025 ‘Ready, Set, Grow!’ gardening competition.
Janet and David Banks impressed the judging panel with their beautifully maintained garden, earning them the coveted Best Garden Award with judges praising the vibrant borders and immaculate, weed-free lawn.
Louise Bassett, Chief Executive Officer at Gentoo, commented:
“I’m always blown away by the effort our customers put into their gardens, and this year was no exception. We encourage our customers to take pride in their gardens, and it’s a joy to see how something as simple as gardening can make such a big difference.”
Janet Banks, winner of the Best Garden Award, said:
“After being told by our neighbourhood coordinator to sort out our garden, I believe we have gone over the top to win the award!”
The couple received a certificate, a personalised trophy, and £200 worth of vouchers to further improve their garden, generously funded by this year’s sponsor, Panacea Applications Limited, through their social value commitment.
Rachel Wynne, CEO of Panacea Applications Limited, added:
It's a pleasure to sponsor an initiative that brings communities together through creativity and sustainability developing its outdoor spaces. We believe in empowering people to grow, whether that’s through technology or through initiatives like this that make a lasting impact on local communities. We’re excited to see the gardens this year’s entries create and bring to life.”
Gentoo’s ‘Ready, Set, Grow!’ competition encourages customers, schools and community groups to share their gardening achievements and celebrate the positive impact of green spaces in the community.
