We've appointed a new Director of Asset and Sustainability

Formally the Associate Director of Asset, Peter Akers will start his new role as Director of Asset and Sustainability this week. The appointment follows Gentoo’s previous Director of Asset and Sustainability, Marc Edwards, starting his new role of Executive Director of Property in September.

Peter joined Gentoo in March 2023, bringing a wealth of knowledge having worked in the housing sector for over 15 years, previously working at North Star Housing where he was Head of Asset and Property.

Since joining Gentoo, he has led on the Group’s approach to strategic asset management, ensuring there is a clear understanding on the performance and sustainability of our homes across the business. He has worked closely with other departments and key stakeholders to ensure Gentoo’s investment decisions, including our current £250m investment programme in existing homes, modernises customers’ homes, achieves value for money, targets areas of higher repairs expenditure and improves customer satisfaction.

In his new role, Peter will lead on the Group’s approach to strategic asset management, asset sustainability, investment plan delivery and ensuring all our stock has an EPC rating of C by 2030 as Gentoo look to reduce energy use for our customers.

Speaking of his new appointment, Peter said: “I am delighted to have been appointed in my role as Director of Asset and Sustainability, leading the Group’s investment plan and continuing to develop our work surrounding energy efficiency and sustainability.

I’m happy to be continuing to work alongside a brilliant Asset and Sustainability team and am committed to developing and improving our service to customers and the city of Sunderland through making the right investment decisions.”

Marc Edwards, Executive Director of Property said: “I would like to congratulate Peter in his new role, and I am confident he will ensure Gentoo make data led investment decisions to ensure our customers continue to have safe, decent homes to live in whilst continuing to improve Gentoo’s approach to sustainability, looking to reduce energy costs for our customers and supporting Gentoo’s contribution to working towards a future net zero city in Sunderland.”
