Gentoo raises more than £13,000 for two Sunderland charities

We have raised £13,788 for our two corporate charities, Sunderland Mind and Action on Dementia Sunderland.

The two Sunderland-based charities were chosen following a vote from over 1000 colleagues.

Action on Dementia has been one of our nominated charities for three years running whilst Sunderland Mind was a new charity chosen for 2022.

Throughout 2022, we raised more than £13,000 through fundraising activities in our offices, depots and buildings including coffee mornings, bake sales and a popular monthly payroll deduction scheme.

As a business invested in Sunderland, our corporate charities put 100% of their funds back into the city, benefiting and supporting local residents and communities.

The money raised helps provide care and social activities for those affected by dementia and their families and those struggling with mental health issues, providing counselling services and support groups.

Susie Thompson, Executive Director of Housing at Gentoo said: “It’s been a difficult year full of uncertainty, but I am blown away by the generosity of colleagues and their dedication to give back to the residents of Sunderland.

“Both charities provide vital services and support to residents living in and around our neighbourhoods and it’s great to know our donation has contributed to their amazing work. It's been a privilege to support them over the last year and we wish them all the best for 2023.”

Trish Cornish, Chief Executive Officer of Sunderland Mind said: “Everyone at Sunderland Mind would like to say a big thank you to Gentoo. We are extremely grateful for your support and the donation that will be used to continue our support for both adults and children in Sunderland.”

Ernie Thompson, Chair of Action on Dementia said: “We would like to say that Gentoo’s support and generosity over the last three years is very much appreciated and has been a major factor in enabling us to continue to provide help and support to the people with dementia and their families during such challenging times for them.”
