Why is delivering Value for Money important?
As a not-for-profit housing organisation, we are incredibly focused on delivering Value for Money and this is crucial in everything that we do.
Value for Money is about maximising performance and benefits from the resources available and doing so in a way that reflects our core values and brings benefits to customers. Ensuring that we manage our costs effectively means that we can deliver more in terms of improving services, building new homes and supporting communities.
A key strand of our corporate strategy (and the 5 enabling strategies – Customer and Communities Strategy; People Strategy; Property Strategy; Digital Transformation Strategy; Sustainability Strategy) is that We spend our money wisely:
We will review Gentoo Homes’ operating model to make the most of its surplus and reinvest it to enable us to build more affordable homes.
We will embed a comprehensive approach to value for money throughout all of our business.
We will continue to invest in knowing the condition of our homes so we can invest our money in the right places.
We will increase our operating margin (a measure of financial performance) to at least 20%.
We will operate with a commercial mindset and drive continuous improvement in everything we do.
Value for Money Standard (Regulation)
The Regulator of Social Housing’s Value for Money Standard (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/value-for-money-standard) sets out our responsibility for overseeing and demonstrating the delivery of Value for Money and how we meet the Standard. On an annual basis, we review our arrangements to ensure that we fully comply with the Standard and to identify any improvements in our arrangements.
The Standard also requires us to annually publish evidence in the statutory accounts of performance against our Value for Money targets and any metrics set out by the regulator and how that performance compares to peers.
