Washington district heating replacement scheme: Statement following meeting with private homeowners

We are delivering a scheme in Washington to replace a district heating system that serves properties in Albany, Fatfield and Oxclose. This includes properties that are both owned by Gentoo, and properties that are privately owned.

Last week, at the request of private homeowners, senior Gentoo colleagues met with two representatives who had requested to speak to us on behalf of other private homeowners impacted by the scheme, many of which are members of a Facebook group 'Gentoo Communal Heating Charges' relating to the scheme, which we accepted.

The meeting was constructive and a number of things were discussed. It was agreed that further communication would be issued to homeowners to clarify some of the issues raised. This week, this information was sent to the all private homeowners impacted by the scheme. Gentoo tenants were not sent this information, as it relates to private homeowners only. If any homeowner did not receive the information this week, please contact us directly.

Diane Carney, Executive Director of Property at Gentoo Group, said:

"Following on from the meeting between two private homeowners and senior Gentoo colleagues on Thursday 7 October, Gentoo drafted further communication for homeowners to clarify some of the issues that had been raised during the meeting.

"We shared the proposed communication with the representatives, who then provided us with feedback. We took some of the suggestions on board that were put forward by the representatives, but were not able to accept everything that was suggested. This further information was sent to all private homeowners impacted by the scheme this week and we hope it provides further clarity.

"We remain committed to listening and working with private homeowners and encourage anyone that requires further information to get in touch with us directly."
