Work is officially underway on our exciting new development in Silksworth as city leaders gathered to celebrate the next stage of construction work on our 'Bellmen Green' development.
The Conishead Center, our former South area office, has recently been demolished to allow for the development of new high quality and affordable homes for the city's residents.
In partnership with Homes England, the new development will see two and three-bedroom homes built, all of which will be available for affordable rent.
The £2.4 million pound investment into these new homes is part of our wider commitment to creating over 900 new homes for rent in Sunderland by 2024, and is one of six sites across the city which are currently under development.
Joanne Gordon, Development Director at Gentoo Group, said: "As a company based in the North East, we're delighted to be working with local contractors T. Manners and Sons for the first time to create 13 vital new affordable homes in the south of the city.
Simon Manners, Managing Director at T.Manners and Sons said: “We are delighted to be working with the Gentoo Group delivering the Bellman Green project. The opportunity to be involved in such a project, bringing high quality affordable rent homes to the area has been a fantastic one and one we take great pride in how it is progressing. We cannot wait to see the project successfully completed and hope to be involved in many other schemes together in the future.”
We anticipate the first homes on the development will be completed next year and will be available to rent via our allocations system HomeHunt.
Our South area office is now located at Akeler House, SR3 3XR.
