Gentoo gets to work on £34m property investment following COVID-19 lockdown

We have fully started work on most of our planned property investment schemes following the Coronavirus lockdown earlier this year.

We will now deliver our comprehensive 2020-21 investment programme, which includes window replacements, roof replacements and external decorations among many of the schemes.

The start of work on this year’s property investment schemes was unfortunately delayed due to Coronavirus lockdown, but as the restrictions are gradually eased the we have geared up to restart all our planned works with our contractors.

Schemes that have resumed include our window replacement scheme, where work will take place across the city in various estates including Concord, Easington Lane, Ford Estate and Ryhope, alongside our ongoing roof replacement programme that will see 661 customers benefit from a new roof this year.

Other investment programmes for our properties this year include:

  • External decoration programme covering properties in Ayton, Usworth, Marley Potts and Fulwell
  • Porch renewals in Town End Farm
  • Fire prevention work across a number of its buildings in the city
  • Lift refurbishments in Lakeside Towers at Gilley Law
  • De-gassing of city centre towers
  • Over 1000 boiler replacements

Alongside the property improvement schemes, we've also resumed work on our pioneering Core 364 project, the largest tower block gas replacement scheme in the UK.  

The specialist scheme is part of a £9 million investment into the tower blocks on the north side of the River Wear that will see hundreds of residents benefit from renewable heat and hot water through pioneering ground source heat.

The programmes are part of our 2019-24 Business Plan that will see £300 million invested in its existing homes and neighbourhoods over the next five years.
