About the role

We are currently looking for an Assistant Project Manager to work in Gentoo Homes to assist in the delivery of residential new build work to time and budget whilst still achieving excellent build and finish quality and customer satisfaction. 

As the Assistant Project Manager, you will:


• Assist the Project Manager in the overall detailed planning of the project and be responsible for monitoring the programme and ensuring all the necessary resources are available  to meet the programme.
• Develop, implement and monitor an agreed quality inspection regime to ensure that standards and quality are delivered to the required levels.
• Ensure that all site demands including effective risk management, health and safety standards, customer care and quality requirements for the scheme are met, through the introduction and application of a briefing and training programme for all site staff.
• Ensure that all aspects of the project are delivered to the set quality standards, customer care service and on programme within the cost and project plan objectives.
• Assist the Project Manager in the compilation of the project programme.
• Participate in the creation of a culture of empowered decision making which ensures quality customer excellence, team work, service innovation and best value within the project team.
• Participate in the post contract evaluation of the project to ensure that all targets and Key Performance Indicators have been achieved in accordance with the Group’s vision, mission and core values.

What we are looking for

You will have proven site management experience of residential new build and refurbishment work, including managing health and safety compliance on site and the ability to take lead responsibility for site management as well as working as part of a site based project management team.

With demonstrable success in a customer focussed organisation, you will hold knowledge of construction and good building practices, including NHBC stage inspections . You are also required to hold a relevant construction related qualification, an SMSTS certificate, CSCS and scaffold inspection certificate.

About the role

We’re looking for a small number of qualified gas engineers to join our gas servicing team at Gentoo. As one of the region’s largest landlords, we have more than 28,000 homes and in excess of 60,000 customers to protect from the dangers of gas. By law, we’re required to carry out a gas service on every single one of our properties every year. As a gas service engineer, you’ll be required to protect our customers by carrying out routine gas services and repairing gas appliances in properties right across Sunderland. You’ll work from an electronic handheld device, using this to receive your schedule of work, upload necessary information to our database and issue the necessary certification. You’ll work alone and be part of a team of engineers working across the city every day, backed by the support of your supervisor and senior management team.

What we are looking for

  • Suitably qualified and experienced gas engineers to carry out a range of servicing and repair work to boilers and gas appliances in domestic properties.
  • Able or willing to train to diagnose breakdowns using electronic testing equipment in a safe manner.
  • Knowledge of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 5th edition and the Gas Industry Unsafe Situation Procedure.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant health and safety.
  • Able to effectively communicate and deal with customers in line with Gentoo’s customer service expectations.
  • Have or be willing to obtain Water Regulations and Unvented hot water Regulation qualifications.
  • Able to work additional hours as and when required.

About the role
The post-holder will be responsible for the delivery, co-ordination and overall management of Gentoo’s responsive repairs and void repairs services. This includes management of a range of trades and provision of an Emergency Out of Hours Service. As a leader and member of the senior management team you will be key to ensuring that the Repairs and Maintenance section demonstrates value for money and delivers excellent performance. Facilitating efficient and high productivity levels are key to the role as well as business planning, budget management and ensuring conformance with all legislation and regulatory requirements.

Leading and managing change that contributes to our corporate challenges will form a big part of the role. It is expected the post-holder will demonstrate a flexible approach to work and perform their duties with integrity. As a confident and effective decision maker, you will strive to meet targets and deadlines and demonstrate high standards of personal resilience. 

Our ideal candidate will have a sound knowledge and understanding of social housing issues and sensitivities. Proficiency in Health and Safety matters, having a financial and commercial awareness along with experience of setting and achieving challenging targets and objectives are essential for the role.

Repairs delivery is a key service offer to our customers and candidates should be able to demonstrate evidence of achieving excellence in delivery of services and commitment to continuous improvement.

About the role
You will be responsible for the installation of new domestic heating systems along with the provision of all planned and reactive general plumbing maintenance demands in both occupied and void properties across all areas of the city.

You will have experience in Heating/Plumbing and Repairs/installations in a domestic environment, along with competency in other secondary trades, however solely Plumbing experience will still be considered. You will have excellent customer service skills and an effective communication style with a confident approach that gives you the ability to influence others, build and maintain relationships and play a vital part in a team to deliver this service and find solutions to problems.

The post requires you to hold a current full UK driving licence and be able to meet the travel requirements of the post. The post requires a basic DBS check.
