Equality and Diversity Statement

Gentoo is a member of Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme. Diversity Champions is a good practice forum for sexual orientation and gender identity issues in the workplace.

We are working with Stonewall, the leading gay equality organisation, because we are committed to sexual orientation and gender identity equality. We want a workplace culture which will enable all of our employees to bring their whole selves to work, to be inspired, feel valued, and able to give all they’ve got.

Since joining the programme in 2006, we have participated in Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index, to benchmark our work in relation to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) inclusion. We have improved our ranking each year, and in 2013 reached the number one position, being named the top employer in Stonewall Top 100 gay-friendly employers. The following year, our consistent top ten ranking over several years was recognised further, and we were awarded Star Performer status, one of only 8 organisations to be offered this status, and the only employer outside of London.

In 2017 Star Performers ended and we entered the index again. We were ranked number 3 and also recognised as a Top Trans Employer in 2018.

Our vision is about strong communities and inspired people, and we believe that inclusive communities are stronger. We therefore celebrate diversity, and have a zero tolerance approach to discrimination, bullying or harassment in relation to sexual orientation, gender identity, and all other protected characteristics.

Having maintained our active and long-term commitment to the Stonewall Diversity Champions programme, we are sending a strong signal to our LGBT staff and customers. We value what makes you unique, and your sexual orientation and gender identity will be respected. We will continue to work inclusively with all of our customers and staff to achieve our vision of inspired people and strong communities.
